Old books, new art

Artist Justin Rowe transforms old books into works of art.

Here is just one of his many creations – called The Kraken:

The Kraken’s tentacles seem to be cut out from the underlying pages – the artist said he printed the word Kraken on the pages that made up the tentacles to make them more menacing.

I looked closely at the ship – fearing that he managed to create the illusion of depth on the sails using only the book’s pages – I think (I hope) the ship has been drawn. If it is not a drawing — no I can’t imagine the skill and time that would be needed to carry out a feat like that.

"Erik excels in roles that require technical creativity and innovation. He is one of the very few people for whom technology is a way of life. Staying abreast with the latest and the greatest comes naturally for him. I found him to be very meticulous about the smallest technical details on projects while maintaining sight of the greater goal. I found him to be a great mentor to junior technical resources and very good writer."
